Many of my patients arrive with the feeling that they have not been taken seriously for years.

I hear this sentence in almost every first consultation, and it is the reason I specialised in lipedema. Women who were told for years that they only had to try harder, eat less, exercise more. Women who did everything right and still had pain. When I explain that there is a disease that describes exactly their symptoms, I often see relief first and then tears. These moments are the core of my work.

I am not a physician who works by the minute. I take time for the diagnosis, I explain, and I say honestly when an operation is not the right way. Treatment of lipedema changes a life; it deserves a decision based on understanding, not on pressure.

Dr. Fetai's medical training comprises five years of surgical training and a completed training in dermatology. From this combination the path into aesthetic surgery followed logically: a surgeon who understands the tissue he works in operates more precisely and more gently.

For over six years he has worked in specialised centres for body contouring and liposuction in Düsseldorf and Cologne, concentrating increasingly on body shaping procedures and finally on the surgical treatment of lipedema. Today he runs a private practice for aesthetic surgery in Düsseldorf.

With over 4,000 procedures performed, thousands of them lipedema specific, his work rests on experience that only arises from years of concentrated activity. In lipedema, experience is not a luxury: it is the most important single safety factor.

As surgeon at a study site of the LiPLEG trial, currently the largest clinical trial on liposuction for lipedema, Dr. Fetai does not only operate; he documents and follows a research protocol. This changes the way he works: standardised, controlled, according to a fixed protocol.

This is not a question of status but of concentration: without volume targets and case rate pressure he can take the time that an honest consultation, a precise operation and accompanying follow-up require. There are no changing surgeons and no treatment by the minute. The physician who advises you operates on you, and the physician who operates on you sees you again in the follow-up.
